What a year, huh? A crazy, wild year… but one that's allowed us to reset and enjoy a few good books along the way. In light of the holiday season, we asked our Creative Director, Rebecca Klodinsky, to share some of her favourite reads. So, whether you're soaking up the summer sun in Australia, or sitting by a warm fireplace in Europe, add these books to your list, iixiigirls and enjoy the read!

If Cats Disappeared from the World by Genki Kawamura

When we asked Bec to name her favourite books, she quickly answered, "If Cats Disappeared from The World." Funnily enough, she hasn't finished reading it yet, simply because she doesn't want it to end! "It's by a Japanese author, Genki Kawamura, and it's a gentle read. While it's fiction, the message it reveals is very much one we can adapt to everyday life". The storyline involves a man dying from a brain tumour. He makes a deal with the devil to erase things from the world in exchange for a prolonged life, but after becoming friends with a cat, something changes. What changes? Well, you'll need to read the book to find out!

Zen In The Martial Arts byJoe Hyams

One of Bec's all-time faves, Zen In The Martial Arts, is a book she's read a few times. "It's not a big book", said Bec, "But it's grounding, and when things get frantic, it just puts everything into perspective. I feel like everyone needs to read it at least once". For maximum zest and minimum stress, read this book.

Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone by J.K Rowlings

One of Bec's childhood favourites, Harry Potter and The Philosopher’s Stone, ended up back on her nightstand a few months ago and frankly, she couldn't put it down. Did you know it's been 20 years since the release of the first Harry Potter book? Call us Potter nerds, but we're climbing aboard the Hogwarts express and taking a trip down memory lane.

The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho

As a traveller by nature, it's no surprise that Paulo Coelho's best selling novel, The Alchemist, is on Bec's list. The Alchemist takes you on an adventure, one that you simply can't forget days, months, even years after reading it. It's relatable and inspirational no matter what journey you're on. Trust us when we say, this book is a must.

Brave New World by Aldous Huxley

With Netflix's Brave New World series now streaming, Bec would like to recommend the original. A dystopian classic, where sex is plentiful and repercussion free, and drugs are abundant and with no comedown or hangover. Surprisingly, the novel has more parallels to modern times than one might think. Alright, we know it sounds a little deep and dark, but it's a goodie, and the perfect novel to read with a glass of red.
